Nicholas Cooke of Black Swan Books

The Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Chesterfield County Public Library will be held at the North Courthouse Road Library at 325 Courthouse Road on Friday May 11, 2018. Nicholas Cooke of Black Swan books will be the featured speaker this year. He is an expert on antiquarian and and used books and will share his insights about the world of book collecting!

There will be a private reception for Friends members (a perk of membership!) prior to the author presentation and meeting. The reception will begin at 6:15 PM. and will give attendees the opportunity to meet one on one with the guest while enjoying heavy hors d’oeuvres and a selection of wine and beer. The reception part of the evening is only for Friends members but members may bring guests to the reception for $10 each.

The Author Presentation and Meeting are free open to the public, and will begin at 7:15 PM.

Shades of Ireland

The Board of the Friends is embarking on a special fund-raising event, a trip to Ireland!  “Shades of Ireland” is a ten day trip, designed for persons 18 and older, open to Friends and the general public.  The trip will take place October 27 – November 5, 2018 and is coordinated by Jeremy Kincheloe of Travel Lovers and conducted by Collette, an award-winning premiere travel tour company. Membership in the Friends is not required.

There are several ways to learn more about this fantastic educational opportunity, including information about the cost and the itinerary.  Information sessions: Two information sessions are scheduled on Monday, April 23   7 p.m. Bon Air Library and  Tuesday, April 24 12:30 p.m. Clover Hill Library which will provide the itinerary and other details.  In addition, a 30 minute Webinar will take place April 3, 2018 at 8:00 PM.  Click here for more information and to register.

The ten branch groups of the Friends of the Chesterfield County Public Library are combining forces for the first time ever to offer thousands of affordable titles at a Really Big Book Sale! The sale will take place over three days at the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, 10300 Courthouse Road: Friday June 8th from 10 AM to 7 PM, Saturday June 9th from 10 AM to 7 PM and Sunday June 10th from Noon to 6 PM.  There will be books, CDs, DVDs, books on tape or CD, and more!

Prices for most items will range from $0.25 to $1.00.  Cash, checks and credit/debit cards will be accepted at the sale.  All proceeds will support the Chesterfield County Public Library to fund expenses not covered by the library system’s budget such as additional computers, furniture, special programming, and many other needs.

Chan Mahoney, a Friends member who has been spearheading the effort, said “We are so excited to be able to bring this great event to the Chesterfield community.  Having all the branches selling books in one location will give customers so much to choose from.”
