As a nonprofit organization that believes in enriching the lives of its community members, the Friends of the Chesterfield County Public Library is always on the lookout for the best and brightest volunteers. We have a variety of volunteer opportunities at the Library branches and for special events.
Please note that a Chesterfield County Friends of the Library membership and a
Chesterfield County Public Library card in good standing are required to become a volunteer.
Board Member Positions
We are Recruiting For Important Positions!
The Friends are looking for enthusiastic, library-loving volunteers for several vacant positions:
- The Board of Directors seeks a Vice President of Fundraising/Book Sales. This role helps coordinate fundraisers and identifies new opportunities to generate income for the Friends. They also help coordinate online and in-person book sales, including the Really Big Book Sale. This is an important position with voting responsibility.
- The Board of Directors seeks a Corresponding Secretary. This position helps ensure that the Friends issue proper and professional correspondence as needed. A key role is ensuring we send thank-you notes for donations. Also, other correspondence as needed. This is a voting position.
- The Enon and Ettrick Friends seek a Branch Leader. Friends branch groups are critical to the success and strength of our organization! A branch leader ensures the Branch is active, has engaged members and volunteers, manages the A-frame book sales, and more. Please see this position description for more information: CLICK HERE.

The next step will be to participate in a brief interview. Friends membership is a requirement of all board positions. Board members serve two-year terms and should be able to commit approximately 3-5 hours a week to their role.

Friends Volunteer Positions
North Courthouse Road Library Secretary
The North Courthouse Road Library Friends are looking for a volunteer to fill the role of secretary for their branch group. The volunteer’s responsibilities would include attending quarterly branch meetings at North Courthouse Road Library (typically 1 hour on a Saturday morning), accurately recording the minutes of the branch meetings, and maintaining archives of previous minutes. The time commitment for this role is approximately 8-10 hours per year. Training will be provided.

North Courthouse Road Sci-Fi Book Sale (May 10)
The North Courthouse Friends are holding a Sci-Fi book sale as part of the library’s Star Wars Day event. Help is needed with setting up on May 9, helping out during the sale on May 10, and taking down after the event.

Golf Tournament (Thursday, May 15, 11:30 am – 7 pm)
The Friends’ 4th annual golf tournament at the Golf Club at the Highlands is coming up and volunteers are needed for the following roles. Lunch and dinner will be provided for volunteers.
- Set up from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm (raffle, auction, tables, etc.)
- During the event from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm (Manage raffle purchases)
- Put together and refill the beverage bin for staff, 10:00 am
- Move raffle, auction items, etc. to the gazebo from the ground floor, 2:30 pm – 6:00 pm
- Take down – 3:00 to complete (approximately 6 pm)

CCPL Staff Awards Ceremony (Friday, May 16)
CCPL is looking for Friends volunteers to help with set up and break down for their Staff Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 16 at Midlothian Library. Dinner will be provided for volunteers.

Members of the Friends of the Chesterfield County Library support and enhance library services in even more ways. Members may volunteer to assist for positions such as:
- Board Members (serve on the Board)
- Branch/Chapter Leader (leader, liaison, treasurer, secretary, historian, etc.)
- Special project coordinators and supporters on projects such as:
- recruiting members
- designing materials
- book sales
- event planning
- marketing booths
- annual meeting
- special author events
- … etc!
- Speakers (authors, community leaders, etc.)
