Picture Book Campaign 2020-2021

Picture Book Fundraiser!

The Friends’ Picture Book Fundraiser concluded on August 31, 2021 and surpassed the goal of purchasing 1,000 books!

Many thanks to everybody who supported this important cause!

Why a Picture Book Fundraiser?

Picture books are books written for young children that rely heavily on pictures to tell the story but can include words as well.  Examples include The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown, and Dr. Seuss books.

The Friends’ goal was to raise enough money to purchase at least 1,000 picture books for the library system.  These books will replace worn out books and add new titles to the library’s collection, including newer editions that expand the diversity and cultural sensitivity of the collection.

For every $20 raised, the Chesterfield County Public Library will be able to purchase and maintain one new picture book and get it into the hands of young readers and families in our community. Investing in picture books is an investment in early literacy, learning and achievement for children and families in our community.

There was also an option to dedicate one or more books to that special someone. The extra $6 donation covered the cost of materials and labor for printing and applying a book plate to the inside of a picture book. Those who choose the book plate option were contacted after purchasing for bookplate information.
